Pre-Halloween Nosferatu Watch Party!
Kansas City Bier Company
310 W 79th St, Kansas City, Missouri 64114
Saturday at 7 PM – 9 PM
We’re getting in the Halloween spirit, German-style, with a watch party of the 1922 German Expressionist horror film, Nosferatu — considered one of the all-time greatest horror films — complete with a live soundtrack performed by Kansas City pianist Rich Hill.

Filmed in 1921 and released in 1922, Nosferatu was an unauthorized adaptation of Dracula, the 1897 Gothic horror novel by Bram Stoker, starring German actor Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. Stoker’s heirs sued over the adaptation, and a court ruling ordered that all copies of the film be destroyed. However, a few prints of Nosferatu survived, and the film came to be regarded as an influential masterpiece of cinema.

According to legend, the film’s original score composed by Hans Erdmann was to be performed by an orchestra during the projection, and the original music was recorded during a screening of the film — but was eventually lost.

Throughout the history of Nosferatu screenings, many composers and musicians have written or improvised their own soundtrack to accompany the film. We’re continuing this tradition with Kansas City pianist Rich Hill, who will provide a live soundtrack accompaniment during the screening.

From 6-10 PM, order any klassiker bier (Dunkel, Pils, Helles Lager or Hefeweizen) and a traditional or Dunkel brat for $8.

27th Annual Fall Festival

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who came out to the Waldo Fall Festival! We wish the weather had cooperated, but we’re happy we had so many visitors before the rain. We’ll see you all next year!

Waldo Area Business Association Celebrates 55 Years!

On Wednesday (Waldo’s favorite day of the week) August 26, 1964, it was noted in the minutes of the Southwest Business Association that the organization should change their name to “Waldo Business Association,” as it “most nearly meets the needs” of the organization. The entire motion is included below. Therefore, on August 26th, we celebrate our birthday officially as the Waldo Area Business Association!

Thank you to all of the pioneers who have championed our District and Association for over five decades. The Waldo Area Business Association “respects yesterday, promises tomorrow” and forever will be the “home of the friendly merchants.”

Waldo Welcomes Brick+Mortar to the District!

On June 13, 2019, Brick+Mortar KC (part of the Broseph Restaurant Group) opened at 7425 Broadway. The Waldo Area Business Association President Stacy Neff said a few words to kick-off the official ribbon-cutting.

Brick+Mortar will be open daily serving lunch and dinner with brunch on Saturday and Sunday. The “elegant-casual” restaurant seats 70 in the dining room and 65 in the bar and lounge area. The back deck has also been renovated.

The diverse menu includes everything from chicken & waffles and a smokestack burger to tuna tartar with an avocado yuzu mousse and strozzapreti pasta with a vodka lamb ragout.

Welcome to Waldo, Brick+Mortar KC!

History of Waldo Event

Join the Waldo Tower Neighborhood Association and the Waldo Area Business Association Advisory Council at the Kansas City Public Library – Waldo Branch (Rooms A & B) for a special evening looking back at the rich history of the Waldo district.

This unique event features local author and historian LaDene Morton who will present portions of her book “The Waldo Story: The Home of the Friendly Merchants,” which will also be for sale at this event. Ms. Morton will also moderate a panel discussion with a variety of longtime Waldo business owners and operators who will share their personal memories and the evolution of Waldo from their perspective.

Join us before the presentation to socialize and enjoy the refreshments graciously provided by the Lewellen family, Lew’s Grill and Bar, and McLain’s Bakery.

Waldo Area Business Association Honors Sam Gromowsky

Sam Gromowsky cuts his cake!

Today we said “thank you” to one of the founding members of the Waldo Area Business Association, Sam Gromowsky. Sam owns and operates Almar Printing, Inc. and he’s been a steady leader who cares for the entire Waldo District and has made this part of the world a better place. We’ll miss him as the President of the Community Improvement Board and we deeply appreciate the countless hours he’s devoted to the Association.

Thank you Sam!
